In other news I’m moving studios in a few weeks which is a little sad (I will miss my River Studios and it’s lovely inhabitants) but a lot exciting. I’m moving to the Boyd Heritage Studios which is in Southbank in the lovely old building that used to be Boyd Girls School back in the day. It’s all newly renovated and gorgeous, and will have a cafe downstairs as well as a public library (!) and a nice park out the front. Hurrah! No photos yet, it’s a bit of a muddy mess at the moment, but I’ll get on that after moving in. The best news is that I’ll be able to have a vaguely open studio – the building has public access where River Studios didn’t – so if you want to come visit, you can. (Also, cafe in the building, yes.)

And in upcoming market news, I’ll be making an appearance at the agIdeas Expo at the Convention Centre, which coincides with the Design Forum and a bunch of other things. Should be good for spotting arty-designy gods if nothing else. It’s 23 May, all day long, and even if you’re not going to the Forums you can come and say hello. AgIdeas also have a fantastic-looking exhibition at the Melbourne Museum, Rodchenko 120, where amazing artists have created posters in homage to Alexander Rodchenko. Yes, I’m a Russian Constructivist tragic. Is that a thing?

AND THEN I’m very pleased to say that I’ll be at Markit@FedSquare again this time, which is Sunday 27 May, 10am-5pm. Naturally there will be many, many beautiful things to buy and I’m hoping to actually leave my stall this time and buy some of them myself. See you there…

Enter from the corner of Coventry and Cecil Sts (near Claypots) and look out for the SO:ME Space logo. There are also a number of permanent shops there including a BEAUTIFUL bookshop and some very attractive bikes. Which doesn’t bode well for profit margins for me.

From the looks of the (top-secret) floor plan there will be many, many stalls this time, which means oh yes, many many opportunities for spending all your money. In the funnest way possible. If you can find me, come and say hullo!

In other, more business-related news, the silk scarves are here and ready to go! They feel absolutely delicious, and so nice and long. Lucky for me I automatically get one of each, but for the rest of you there are 25 of each design (and no re-prints will be occurring) so head over here to grab one for yourself.

The scarves recently made their world-wide debut at the Bowerbird Bazaar, Adelaide’s most beloved design market (well I think so anyway), and were a bit of a hit. Bowerbird is ALWAYS great and this time, in a new venue, it was just wonderful – much more room for stallholders and punters alike. And the food… ahh. Thanks again to my host Linda from Delilah devine! Here is the stall in all its pristine glory, (ie, before the doors opened).

What was even more lovely was opening The Age on Saturday and seeing myself in it! I was interviewed by Megan Backhouse (who is wonderful and hilarious) for a profile in December and quite frankly I was so rushed and insane at the time that I didn’t remember anything I said – so it was a nice surprise to read my words and find them not too nonsensical. Hurrah for good writing.

In other news, it’s good to be back in the studio and planning out the year. I’m very excited about some new digitally printed silk scarves that will be coming out for winter – they’re going to be deliciously long and shiny – 160 x 35cm. It was quite strange designing for a long thin thing that goes upside down at the other end; I had to keep remembering not to put important things in the middle where no one would see them.

Here’s a couple of sneak peeks. Each end is shown up the right way – just try to image it as one long scarf (like I said, strange to get one’s head around).

There’ll be four designs altogether (as long as the print turns out ok, eep!) and I am taking pre-orders if anyone is desperately interested – they’ll be available March-April. I LOVE going to Brisbane for this market. It’s in the most beautiful building (all Victorian-looking, wonderful balcony, with grass underneath for the food stalls and bands) and I must admit, the weather is always much better than in Melbs. And it’s one of those markets where you sell lots but then fill your suitcase up again with purchases. (I regret nothing!)

Fed Square (yes, not a trick name)

One of my favourite markets, it focuses on illustrative and decorative kind of products (ones that have been MARKED, geddit?) It’s always an amazing line-up and definitely somewhere to get all of the Christmas shopping done in one swoop.

So I will see you all there, hmm? Usual 10% discount for blog readers (you have to tell me though, I can’t tell from your face) which gets bumped up to 20% if you bring me food/coffee/beer. That’s a good deal!

So here’s a peek at the first print, which has been dubbed the Moon print:

And here it is in dress form, printed onto chiffon (which feels ever so lovely and smooth). The back of the dress is slightly different so that you don’t feel like you’re mirroring your front self all day. Obviously the chiffon is sheer so a little slip or short singlet dress is a good idea – we’ve all got one of those right? I think I’ve got about six.

I’m absurdly pleased with the results, and the good news is there’s two new prints being made too! Here’s a little tiny sneak peek.

AND to my total delight, I notice that the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art is currently showing Surrealism: the Poetry of Dreams. And I do happen to have a little spare time on Friday afternoon before I have to lug all my stuff to the market. Yessss. Max Ernst, Rene Magritte, Giorgio De Chirico, Man Ray, oh my.
